Accreditation!
We got Accredited!!!
Ross University has been going through the process to be recognized as an AVMA accredited Veterinary School, and we just found out this morning that we got it! This also means that there is one less 8,000$ test that we have to take when we graduate!

Zip Lining and First Week
Just came back from zip lining with Sara over the rainforest and all I have to say is....meh. I thought it was going to be way more exciting. Halfway through the 1st and longest line, I was kinda just sitting there, waiting to stop haha. Oh well, I guess next time I gotta try something more extreme!
So first week of classes was awesome. I decided to run for class rep and got it =) and I have my first Student Govenment (SAAVMA) meeting today!
We have 6 classes this semester: Medical Math (which is pretty much the 1st half of pharmacology), Physiology, Veterinary Terminology, Microbiology (which looks like it's going to be a mix of immunology, bacteriology, virology and parasitology), Evidence Based Medicine (we get a case and have to work it up over the course of 4 weeks) and Applications (We actually get to work with animals). These should be interesting!

New Car & Catamaran trip!
Parents and little bro left today. =( I know I'm far from it, but I feel so lonely on the island right now.
We finally got some internet/cable/phone. Just in time for classes to start tomorrow! Well, since vet prep doesn't have classes on Mondays, we just have a vet prep meeting on campus tomorrow.
We also got our car on Friday! Sara and I decided to share one for now, esp since we have the same exact schedule and we didn't budget for how expensive these cars are! We got a 2001 Toyota Cavalier. Yes, you read that right.
Yesterday was our Orientation catamaran trip! It was pretty awesome. We got some good food, got to go snorkeling, went to a bar on Nevis, and just did some fun sailing.
Sara, Lindsey and I. Lindsey is also in vet prep and Sara had met her before we came down to school because they are both from Michigan.
I got pretty sun burnt during the catamaran, but it's healing quickly. I can imagine this will NOT be the last burn that I get while here! I'm glad I brought some aloe lotion!

Orientation Week
Getting the hang of some things around here. Driving on the opposite side of the street is a trip in it self. Haven't driven yet, but I can't wait to try! No internet/cable/phone at the apartment yet, but at least there's internet on campus. We have a few lectures some days this week for orientation just about getting used to and getting around on the island and campus. It's definitely exciting to be sitting in a classroom already!
We went on an island tour and got to experience some things on the island, as well as some island beer! I haven't been able to drink beer for about a year now, because of the ulcer, but I figured I'd try it anyway, and it went down nice and smooth!

This is my roommate, Sara, Caroline and myself standing in front of a fan palm tree on our tour of Battik (an amazing place with tons of local screen printing art!) enjoying some Carib, the most popular local beer here. The place mat is an example of the screen printing stuff that they do, my mom got me a set of 4!
This is the front of campus from across the street. As you can see, right on the water...making for some nice views to calm you down before a test!
My lovely family and I, hanging out, drinking, next to a cannon on a fort....with Nevis in the background!
And leaving you with a lovely sunrise view from our apartment. =)

Hoping a plane...
Ok so, in 24 hours time, I will be on a plane to move to the island of St. Kitts, where I will be spending the next 2 years and 8 months of my life. Very nerve wracking! Trying to figure out what to pack is the hard part - stuffing school stuff and things for the apartment into 4 suitcases and stay under the 50lbs. weight requirement is rough.
The school is R
oss University School of Veterinary Medicine, in St. Kitt's and Nevis, West Indies. The program I'm going into is called "Vet Prep" and is a semester long before 1st semester in veterinary school. It is a transition period for students where we take some classes pertaining to future ones and get some hand on experience while also getting to experience the island unlike others that jump right into 1st semester. Most of the "vet preppers" do really well in future semesters so I'm glad I am in the program.
And this is a picture of our apartment building! It looks like a resort!

On to some more packing!
